Job Description
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Project Engineer to oversee the construction of buildings and associated facilities, including administrative offices, control rooms, workshops, warehouses, and residential accommodations within a major sea port development project. The ideal candidate will be responsible for supervising all phases of civil and architectural works related to the buildings scope, ensuring compliance with project specifications, timelines, budgets, and safety standards.
Job Qualifications
Required Education:
-Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
Required Experience & Certificates:
-Minimum 7 years of experience in the construction of multi-purpose buildings and facilities, preferably on large-scale industrial projects.
-Prior experience in remote or international projects; experience in Africa is a strong asset.
Required Skills:
-Solid understanding of building construction practices, including structural, architectural, MEP coordination, and finishing works.
-Proficiency in interpreting design drawings and using construction management tools (e.g., MS Project, AutoCAD).
-Strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
-Fluent in English; Portuguese proficiency is an advantage.
-Willingness to be based full-time on-site in Angola for the duration of the project.
Tasks and Duties:
-Oversee the execution of structural, architectural, and finishing works for office buildings, housing units, and associated amenities.
-Review technical drawings, design packages, and construction documents to ensure accuracy and feasibility.
-Monitor daily site activities, ensuring compliance with design specifications, safety standards, and quality control requirements.
-Coordinate with design consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams for timely issue resolution and smooth progress of building works.
-Ensure the availability and optimal use of manpower, equipment, and materials across the buildings work fronts.
-Prepare and review method statements, progress reports, and construction schedules relevant to the buildings scope.
-Ensure works are executed in line with project milestones and support timely handover of completed facilities.
-Troubleshoot and resolve any engineering or execution-related issues on site.
-Participate in inspections, snagging, and handover processes in coordination with the quality and client representatives.
-Ensure all construction activities adhere to local regulations, company standards, and health, safety & environmental (HSE) policies.
-Develop and submit construction-related documents such as method statements, inspection and test plans (ITPs), progress reports, and material submittals in line with project specifications and contractual requirements.
-Ensure all documentation is reviewed and approved by relevant stakeholders in a timely manner to avoid delays in execution.
-Conduct regular site inspections to monitor the progress of works against the approved schedule.
-Maintain detailed records of daily activities, manpower, and equipment usage.
-Identify potential delays or deviations and initiate corrective actions in coordination with the planning and construction teams.
-Analyze and resolve technical or operational issues encountered during the execution phase.
-Liaise with the design team, consultants, and site supervisors to implement practical, cost-effective solutions while maintaining compliance with engineering standards and project quality objectives.
-Continuously assess the availability and adequacy of resources (materials, equipment, and manpower) necessary for the timely execution of works.
-Raise requisitions and follow up on procurement or allocation to avoid work stoppages or inefficiencies.
-Direct the daily activities of site personnel, including supervisors, laborers, equipment operators, and subcontractors, ensuring that manpower and machinery are effectively deployed.
-Provide technical guidance, monitor performance, and ensure adherence to safety protocols and work methodologies.
-Plan and coordinate works in alignment with the project execution plan to achieve defined milestones and deliverables within the set time frame.
-Ensure that critical elements are completed to support the progress of interrelated work packages and overall project completion.
